Web 2.0 - Week 7 - Wikis

There are so many different ways of doing the same things on the web. It can be pretty frustrating for someone like me - someone who does not really care too much about being interactive within the web. It confuses me and makes me wonder why we need quite so much technology within the internet. I suppose that each aspect of Web 2.0 can be compared to specific ways of life. Some ways of life fit some, while other ways of life fit others. Some ways of doing things on the internet may be easier or slightly more suitable for the user and their purpose or goal.
Before reading about wiki's, my main questions about them were "Why do we need wikis? What is the difference between a webpage, a wiki, and a blog?" I learned that anyone can edit or add to a wiki. The only problem I can see with that is that anyone can post false information. The only solution to that is if they are caught and someone reposts the correct information. It would make sense that after more than a few false posts, the user be removed from the wiki's members.

Web 2.0 - Week 6 - Photo Sharing

My Sleeping Babies ---->

I am not a big computer person. I use it to check my email, look something up, get on facebook, or simply to do my job here at the library! Though everything in Web 2.0 is interesting and I am glad I am becoming familiar with it, I honestly do not think I will ever use any of it! I may be tempted to create another blog, but then I haven't kept up with the one I began before, so I probably wouldn't keep up with a new one for long either.

This week's topic of photosharing is an interesting one. Besides blogs, this is my favorite of the topics so far. RSS feeds are useless to me. I don't have that many sites that I frequent and if I want to go to one I will just type in the address. RSS feeds are more convenient for computer junkies. Twitter is like a facebook and my friends and I have facebook accounts already and podcasting is just not for me, though podcasts can be a good tool to learn about something new.

As far as photosharing goes, I have photos posted on facebook, but have never used flickr. For the purpose of this training have signed up for an account. I don't think I will be motivated enough to post any pictures, but I do enjoy looking at the photos posted on there.

Web 2.0 - Week 5 - Podcasting

I did not know what Podcasting was going into this training. Reading through the podcasting section, I learned how I can subscribe to various podcasts that interest me. I feel that I would use podcasting more often than the RSS feeds because I love to watch videos online, but there aren't many sites that I actually "follow."

Web 2.0 - Week 4 - Your Choice/Twitter

I decided that because I was not at all familiar with Twitter, I would focus on that during week 4. I went to the Twitter website and registered. I scanned around the website to learn a little bit more about what it is. I have to say that I'm not real sure when I myself would use it, but I can understand why some people would. When I was in high school, instant messaging became very popular. All through high school and college my friends and I used it to talk. Twitter is a lot like that, but it's like a chat room. You can talk to multiple people about various things. The only problem is that you have to have 'twitterers' who want to twitter with you. It's still a bit fuzzy to me.

Web 2.0 - Week 3 - RSS Feeds

I have to say that I found the RSS feeds a bit confusing at first. I thought they were something that you put on your blog. I didn't realize that you had a whole separate account for the feeds. So I signed into Google Reader and created a small profile. Then I subscribed to cnn.com and national geographic.com. It was interesting to learn how to use the RSS feeds. I can see how they became so popular; they are quite convenient. Everything is in one place! And nowadays especially, anything that is easy, fast and convenient is popular.
